Aims
The aim of the Group is to work within the Community to enhance the natural and scenic beauty of Newport on Tay and Wormit by:
- providing horticultural displays
- encouraging protection and preservation of the natural environment
- promoting community involvement in our villages
BEGINNING
Newport and Wormit In Bloom was initiated by a Fife Council scheme which had been brought to the notice of the Community Council, some of whose members were interested and so they applied for grants, set up bank accounts and invited others to join the new Committee.
Fundraising and planning began in 2010. Our first planters and plants were bought.
PRESENT
The group is now established. Fife Council Floral Enhancement Grants have allowed the group to develop a planning and planting routine. The local community also has been supportive in donations, comments and in providing assistance.
FUTURE
The number and types of planting has been increased and we will endeavour to sustain this and diversify in future with wildflowers, sustainable planting and fruit tree planting planned. Our members remain vigilant to the state of our surroundings and will continue to liaise with the Community Council and our local Councillor.
